Human Rights Code


The Ontario Human Rights Commission enforces the Ontario Human Rights Code, which was established to eliminate all forms of discrimination and provide for equal rights and opportunities for every person in Ontario. The Code prohibits discrimination on the grounds of race, ancestry, place of origin, colour, ethnic origin, citizenship, creed, sex, sexual orientation, age, marital status, family status, disability, the receipt of public assistance (related to accommodation only), and record of offences (in employment only). Materials are available on sexual harassment, gender-related comments and jokes, and pregnancy-related guidelines.
