Located at Family Courts in 17 areas throughout the province, Family Law Information Centres provide information on alternative dispute resolution options, and issues related to separation and divorce and child protection matters. Information about court process and other community resources are also available. This service will refer you to a lawyer who will work for you.
There is a $6 charge to use the phone service. However, if
you are in police custody, under the age of 18, in a shelter
or are experiencing domestic violence, you can call (416) 947-3330
in the Toronto area, or toll-free at 1-800-268-8326 from elsewhere
in Ontario. You will be given a half-hour free consultation,
after which you can decide if you want to hire the lawyer to work
for you. Assistance in other languages is available and other
special needs may also be accommodated.

Legal Aid Ontario offers
legal services free of charge for certain cases involving child
protection, custody, support, access and restraining-order
issues. Legal aid staff will look at your personal financial
circumstances to decide if you qualify. Every situation is
different. It all depends on your family responsibilities and
your monthly expenses.
