Abuse Prevention and the Rural Teen (APART)

Delivered presentations to youth, parents/caregivers, teachers/staff in Dufferin/Caledon elementary and secondary schools to increase awareness of violence/abuse and the dynamics of healthy dating relationships.  Activities included a two-day summer camp for at-risk youth (ages 11-13) and the creation of a cartoon booklet for youth and an information booklet for adults entitled "Take Action" to support school presentations.

Girl Power

Produced facilitator and participant manuals for the Girl Power program to support Aboriginal girls (ages 10-14) to develop self-esteem, awareness and skills for healthy, equal relationships and to build girl-friendly communities.  Held Girl Power camps and started Girl Power clubs.  The program manuals are available at:

In Love…and In Danger

Trained youth leaders to provide peer education in their schools and communities to prevent dating violence.  Four conferences educated youth about dating violence, and showcased how youth used music, dance and theatre to portray both dating violence and prevention strategies.  Included a workshop for adults called “How Adults Can Help.”

Produced a guide and delivered training for workshop facilitators and participants made up of 18 fun and engaging activities to promote healthy, equal relationships among children and youth (ages 8-14).  Activities promote respect, trust, honesty, communication, teamwork, self-reflection, self-esteem and healthy decision-making.

Promoting Healthy, Equal Relationships

Conducted workshops, community consultations, leadership training and outreach to diverse populations to engage men, women and youth in Durham region to help prevent violence against women and build safer communities. Promoting Healthy and Equal Relationship in the Latin American Community

Developed and delivered leadership training for young Latin-American women (ages 18-25) who then provided peer education to promote healthy equal relationships.  Also created a public education DVD and reached out to youth in schools, ESL programs, community programs and through the Spanish media.

Promoting Healthy Equal Relationships - Teachers’ Resource Guide for Northwestern Ontario

Developed a resource guide for teachers in Northwestern Ontario about local training programs to promote healthy equal relationships among children and youth (ages 8-14).  Guide includes a list of youth-oriented websites, videos and books that address issues including bullying, self-esteem, body image, healthy equal relationships, dating, sex, media and racism.
