Women’s History Month was established in 1992 by the Government of Canada. This special month, celebrated in October, provides Canadians with an opportunity to learn more about women’s historic accomplishments and their contributions to our country and society.
Each year, Status of Women Canada, the federal government department responsible for women’s issues, promotes a theme that celebrates women's historic accomplishments and their contributions to Canadian society.
