Building Aboriginal Women’s Leadership Program

The Building Aboriginal Women’s Leadership program is a $571,946 investment in the future of Aboriginal communities. This program supports four Aboriginal organizations located in Northern Ontario for two-year initiatives (until March 31, 2009) aimed at increasing Aboriginal women’s full participation in leadership roles in their communities.

More than 1000 Aboriginal women are participating in programs that support building Aboriginal women’s leadership by:

• bringing together women in existing leadership roles to mentor other women;
• providing Aboriginal women with leadership skills development training;
• promoting Aboriginal women in leadership as role models; and
• increasing the capacity of Aboriginal women’s organizations to address issues of importance to Aboriginal women across Ontario.
