Ontario Helping Women Work In The Skilled Trades


Ontario is providing 152 low–income women with training in carpentry, welding, horticulture, painting-decorating, cooking and landscaping.

The $1.5 million investment from the province’s Women In Skilled Trades program will help address this worker shortage by giving low-income women the skills training they need to build a higher quality of life.

The training is being provided in Burlington, Hamilton, Hawkesbury, Kenora, Fort Frances, Waterloo and Toronto.

Burlington
The Centre for Skills Development and Training will receive $202,592 to deliver training to 20 women in enhanced general carpentry. The program includes 30 weeks of in-class and on-the-job training, and a 16-week work placement.

Hamilton
AAT School Hamilton Inc. will receive $260,000 to deliver training in landscaping to 20 women in Hamilton. The program includes 30 weeks of in-class and on-the-job training, and a 10-week work placement.

Hawkesbury
La Cité collégiale will receive $179,490 to deliver training in welding to 14 Francophone women in Hawkesbury. The program includes 30 weeks of in-class training and a 20-week work placement.

Kenora and Fort Frances
Confederation College will receive $208,000 to deliver a cook training program to 28 Aboriginal women in Kenora and Fort Frances. The program includes 24 weeks of in-class training and an eight-week work placement.
