Did You Know...

Women’s participation in apprenticeship training is on the rise in Ontario...

  • Women represent 29% of new apprenticeship registrations (2012), up from over 23% in 2007.1

Yet women’s participation in apprenticeship training in Ontario continues to remain low in traditionally male-dominated fields…

  • Women account for more than 2% of new apprenticeship registrations in both the automotiveand construction sectors (2012).2
  • Women represent over 3% of new apprenticeship registrations in the industrial sector (2012).3

Instead, women dominate apprenticeship training in Ontario’s service sector……

  • Women make up 62% of new apprenticeship registrations in the service sector (2012), whichincludes traditionally female-dominated occupations, such as hairstylists and childdevelopment practitioners.4

Among younger and older workers, women still represent a minority of those with Registered Apprenticeship certificates in Canada…

  • Women account for 21% of those with Registered Apprenticeship certificates in the 25 to 34age group, and 19% of those with certificates in the 55 to 64 age group (2011).5
