The University of Ottawa has begun a research project called “Promoting Successful Integration of New Immigrant University Professors into Ontario Post-Secondary Institutions”. This project identifies the barriers, challenges and issues facing internationally-educated university professors in the post-secondary school system. Through the project, the university is developing on-line professional development strategies, enhancing instructional technology skills, and creating an on-line faculty development learning module to better integrate internationally-trained professors into post-secondary institutions. The project is being undertaken with the assistance of 150 internationally-trained university professors currently employed in participating Ontario post-secondary institutions. The project will integrate its e-learning tools, resources and strategies into the learning community of the Institute for the Advancement of Teaching in Higher Education (IATHE), an alliance of educational experts, associations and institutions.
