CARE Centre for Internationally Educated Nurses

The CARE program helps internationally trained nurses get licensed and obtain employment. CARE works with participants to identify individual needs and goals and develops a personal learning plan. The CARE program offers a range of services and supports to participants, including exam preparation, nursing-specific language training, counselling, financial advice, job shadowing, workshops, networking opportunities and a resource centre. Clinical workplace experience is also offered through health agencies in Ontario. These services help internationally educated nurses integrate successfully into the workplace in Ontario.

Recently, CARE enhanced its language training curriculum focusing on intercultural communication (conveying empathy and communicating in an appropriately assertive manner), telephone communication and the use of official documents in the workplace. Audio and video practice tools enhance learning opportunities. CARE's language training program takes 24 months to complete.
