ChangeTheWorld Ontario Youth Volunteer Challenge is a way for Ontario teens to make a difference in their lives and communities through volunteering.
Help us meet our goal of 10,000 Ontario youth volunteering for five hours during National Volunteer Week, April 19-25, 2009.
The Challenge is happening in 20 communities. Local volunteer centres are planning a wide range of volunteer activities to suit your interests.
Check the Ontario Volunteer Centre Network’s website for ChangeTheWorld volunteer opportunities in your community. Also please visit YouTube, Facebook and MySpace to connect with youth, find more info and to share your photos video and comments.
Volunteer ideas: What’s your thing?
If you would like to do your own thing, here are five great ways to volunteer in your community with friends and have fun at the same time. Just book your hours with your local volunteer centre and make your contribution count!
Become buddies with new immigrant teens: It’s hard to make friends when you’re new to a country. Meet just-arrived teens and show them your favourite hang-outs.
Beautify your surroundings: Offer to freshen up your community with a coat of paint.
Get down in the dirt. Look for tree planting opportunities in the spring. Or find groups that plant flowers around public spaces like libraries, schools, senior’s residences.
Share your puck ‘n ball skills: Help coach kids basketball, hockey or soccer teams. You’ll build leadership skills and set an example for younger kids.
Help a senior: Offer to spend an hour entertaining or assisting seniors. Organize a karaoke evening and sing along to bygone hits.
