As champions of civil society, not-for-profits bind our province together and represent our shared sense of empathy and passion in action. Our government’s throne speech last month made clear our intent to help further strengthen the sector as part of our Open Ontario Plan, which calls for economic growth and community building through new and innovative approaches to employment, to prosperity and to the provision of services. And that is why we are here today, to announce that the Premier has asked Helen Burstyn, as Chair of the Ontario Trillium Foundation, and myself as Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, to work with the non-profit sector to prepare a concrete strategy to transform, improve and strengthen the government’s relationship with not-for-profits. The process will explore how to better coordinate the government’s approach to the sector, in terms of policies, procedures, operational mechanisms, research and communication.
