What is the Ontario Senior Achievement Award?


The Ontario Senior Achievement Award honours those who have made outstanding contributions to their communities after turning 65.

Who can receive this award?

Anyone who lives in Ontario, and has made a significant contribution over the age of 65. Achievements in many fields would qualify, for example:

  • Arts/Literature
  • Community Service/Voluntarism
  • Education
  • Environment/Science
  • Fitness/Recreation/Sport
  • Humanitarian Activities
  • Keeping History Alive

How are recipients selected?

Recipients are chosen by a selection committee. Members of the selection committee are from the seniors community, and are appointed by the Minister Responsible for Seniors.

How is the award presented?

Each year, 20 individuals are chosen to receive this award. A special ceremony is held at Queen’s Park to honour the recipients.

Can I nominate someone?

Yes, individuals and organizations can nominate someone for a Senior Achievement Award.

When is the deadline?

Nomination forms may be submitted at any time. The deadline is June 15 of each year. All nominations received after this date will be considered for the following year.

How do I nominate someone?

Follow these steps:

  1. Download the Senior Achievement Award Nomination Form from this website in PDF or HTML
  2. Fill out the information about your nominee
  3. Write a description of what your candidate has done to deserve the award
  4. Include news articles, letters of support, statements and other materials you think will help the Council make a recommendation
  5. Ensure all supporting materials are with your submission.
  6. Submit your nomination to the address on the form
