What are the Amethyst Awards?


The Amethyst Awards recognize outstanding achievements by Ontario Public Servants.

Who are the award recipients?

These are people who have distinguished themselves, by changing the way services are carried out, saving time and money through technology, or showing exceptional professionalism and care in performing their duties.

Who can receive this award?

Groups or individuals who are members of the Ontario Public Service, and have made outstanding contributions. These might include:

  • Client Service: serving the public with speed and accuracy and great care for the customer
  • Innovation: moving new ideas into action
  • Leadership: being clear and accountable while using and developing peoples’ strengths
  • Professional Achievement: using technical and professional knowledge to achieve results
  • Collaboration: creating partnerships with others areas of government to increase efficiency and reduce duplication
  • Lifetime Achievement: achievements that have been recognized and influential over a long period of time.

What does the award symbolize?

The Amethyst Award is an elegant stone carved into a standing plaque. The award’s crest decorates the centre. An amethyst is a gem found in Ontario.
