We have provided this list to help you learn more about these helpful organizations. This list is not comprehensive, and the Government of Ontario does not officially endorse any of these organizations or sites.
Carleton University Centre for Voluntary Sector Research & Development
This centre works with networks of practitioners, academic researchers and policy makers. Its website includes information, research and learning opportunities on emerging issues in the nonprofit sector. It focuses on sustainability and leadership, policy and practice and connections and community.
This is Canada's largest nonprofit sector website. It has news, weekly feature articles, a “Village Vibes” newsflash, nonprofit employment information, volunteer matching, nonprofit training courses and links to thousands of nonprofit sector organizations and websites in Canada and around the world.

This Community Services Council of Newfoundland and Labrador website offers a wide range of information on managing a voluntary organization in Canada.
Human Resources Council for Voluntary/Nonprofit Sector
This site provides a wide range of Human Resources information and guidance to help nonprofits attract, support, and keep skilled and committed employees. Its online resources include the Good HR Practices Tool Kit Human Resources assessment and planning tools, information on employee benefits and retirement plans, and more.
Imagine Canada is a national registered charity that looks into and out for Canada’s charities and nonprofits. Through offices in Toronto, Calgary and Ottawa, it supports and profiles research that puts the sector on the map and raises its profile in the minds of Canadians.

Imagine Canada’s Insurance and Liability Resource Centre
The Ontario Volunteer Partnership has set up an Insurance and Liability Resource Centre for Nonprofits. This centre is operated by Imagine Canada. The Centre provides training, tools and resources, and alternate insurance purchasing models for nonprofit organizations and hosts webinars and in–person workshops throughout the year across Ontario.
Ontario Nonprofit Network
The Ontario Nonprofit Network is a network of networks that helps to build communication and coordination among nonprofit organizations working for the public benefit in Ontario. They support nonprofits so they have the information that they need to make their voices heard and their issues addressed.
Ontario Volunteer Centres Network
This organization is a provincial network and voice for all of Ontario’s recognized volunteer centres. It strengthens the individual and collective ability of volunteer centres in Ontario to promote and develop volunteerism. Professional Administrators of Volunteer Resources of Ontario (PAVR-O)
This provincial organization promotes professional standards of excellence in the administration of volunteer resources throughout Ontario. PAVR-O builds individual, organizational and community capacity to effectively engage volunteers by helping them manage their volunteer resources professionally.
Ryerson University – Centre for Voluntary Sector Studies
This Centre was established in 1995 to enhance understanding of the voluntary sector through research and education. Its mandate includes conducting and disseminating research, providing educational opportunities through formal undergraduate and continuing education programs, and providing consulting and research services to nonprofit organizations.
This website connects visitors to a wide array of free resources related to Canada's nonprofit sector. These resources include news and resources, access to online communities, access to discussion forums and an e-newsletter.
Volunteer Canada Resources
Volunteer Canada provides a national voice for volunteerism and volunteer centres in Canada. It has provided leadership on issues and trends in the Canadian volunteer movement since 1977. Its website includes research, training and information on volunteer management, board volunteering, family volunteering, recognition, screening, youth volunteering, older adult volunteering and directors’ and officers’ insurance.
