Grants for Volunteerism/Voluntary Sector

As part of our support for volunteerism and the voluntary sector, we fund a number of important initiatives.

Current projects

ChangeTheWorld: Ontario Youth Volunteer Challenge during National Volunteer Week

For three weeks every year, beginning on the first day of National Volunteer week, Ontario volunteer centres deliver local projects as part of a province-wide ChangeTheWorld: Ontario Youth Volunteer Challenge campaign. Each local project encourages youth to volunteer, and also provides youth with volunteer opportunities.

Did you know?

Nonprofit social enterprises are the many different types of nonprofit-run businesses or initiatives that can help organizations generate revenue, promote financial stability and further their social purpose or mission.

Social innovation is a term that can describe new strategies, delivery models, ideas and organizations designed to meet  many different significant social needs, and to strengthen civil society.

Social enterprise/ Social innovation

We fund small projects to help nonprofit organizations promote social enterprise and social innovation in the nonprofit sector. We are not currently accepting applications for funding.

To be considered, projects must:

  • Help groups of organizations prepare to start, expand or
improve a social enterprise or social innovation
  • Develop or improve a social enterprise training program that
focuses on small- to medium-sized nonprofits.

Ministry of Citizenship, Immigration and International Trade-Ontario Trillium Foundation Capacity Building Partnership

The Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) is an agency of the Government of Ontario, and Canada’s largest grantmaking foundation focused on building healthy and vibrant communities. Over $110 million is awarded annually to some 1,000 nonprofit and charitable organizations across the province.

Each year, more than 3,000 applications are reviewed by hundreds of volunteers. Supported by professional and experienced staff, volunteers bring knowledge of local needs and a wide range of expertise to the decision-making process.

In 2015, OTF launched a new Investment Strategy with new deadlines and a simplified and streamlined application process.

Do you have an initiative that will make a difference in your community? Go here to learn more about OTF and how to apply.
