The Ontario Award for Paramedic Bravery recognizes individual acts of outstanding courage performed by members of Ontario's paramedic services.

The recipients of this award are women and men whose actions exemplify selfless courage without concern for their own personal safety.

Nomination process


Who is eligible?

Any Ontario paramedic, under the jurisdiction of the Ambulance Act, is eligible to receive this award for an act of superlative bravery that has occurred within the last 24 months.

Under special circumstances nominations for actions that have occurred beyond 24 months may be considered. A letter explaining the delay in submitting the nomination is required.

Actions performed by paramedics both on-duty and off-duty may be considered.

The nomination of a paramedic chief must be endorsed by the Chief Administrative Officer or Clerk of the Municipality.

The award may be bestowed posthumously.

How do I nominate someone?

Ontario residents and members of an Ontario paramedic service may nominate a paramedic.

Ontario residents considering a nomination should contact their local paramedic chief. Each nomination must be endorsed by a paramedic chief.

Nominations must be submitted by mail.

When is the deadline?

The deadline is November 30. If this date falls on a weekend or holiday, nominations will be accepted the following business day.

Eligible nominations received after the deadline will be considered for the following year.

Nominations may be submitted at any time.

How are the awards presented?

The awards are presented at a special ceremony hosted by the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care.
