Ontario Newcomer Champion Award recognize individuals and groups who have made a difference in their community and province through active citizenship and engagement. Award recipients are champions of voluntarism, proud supporters of newcomers, and advocates of greater social and civic inclusion.
The awards were created in 2007 and expanded in 2011 to include three categories:
An individual or a group may be nominated in the Community Leader and Newcomer Champion categories. ChangeTheWorld Youth Ambassadors must be nominated by a participating volunteer centre.
Nominees must live in Ontario. Posthumous and self-nominations are not accepted.
You can make a nomination online or fill in and send us a nomination form. You can download the nomination form from this website in PDF and HTML formats.
The deadline is March 15. All nominations received after this date will be considered for the following year. Nominations may be submitted at any time.
An independent selection committee reviews all nominations and recommends the recipients.
The Minister of Citizenship and Immigration presents the awards at a special recognition ceremony in June in celebration of Canadian Multiculturalism Day.
